Ecsape The Fate w/ The Mission in Motion & A Silent Fiction - 25.7.08

Before I die, I will have seen it all...

Pre-gig/Line up/ Band Arrival/Photos

After hours driving, Kate and I finally were dropped off at the UNSW Roundhouse ready to see one of our favourite bands: Escape The Fate. To say the least; we were fucking psyched.  It was 8 degrees Celsius according to the cars thermometer, and we were decked out in band shirts and jeans. No jackets because we had no where to put them and didn't want a locker. Basically we were fucked.7 more hours like this, it was freezing. I was so anxious and nervous to a crazy extent so I probably came off as a weirdo, which is worrying me a lot to this day :/ There were a few people there; they were lovely. A lot of them I knew from other shows and from MySpace, but I met some rad new people too.

We waited for a few hours around the side, and then the band came! Robert was videotaping everyone, Max came over and said hello to everyone and asked for a smoke. Talked for a bit and then he left.  Craig, Monte and Robert came past and went inside. Rob was just about to go, I asked him for a quick photo and he did so which was way, way nice of him. I thanked him and told him I appreciated it a lot and then we chilled outside some more.

Your face is pale, your body's cold

The next few hours were filled with rain, coldness, photos, videos, music, and hickeys that would end up last three days. Oh and it was really wet in cold incase I forgot to mention.

We ran in, and landed a spot on the ride side of the barrier; Max's side. Kate ran off to get merch, then came back. Kate and I looked up when there were onlyabut50 kids in, looked up and Craig and co were there. Kate nudged me and we quickly waved and smiled and they looked down at waved back. That was fun. Then they left and came back and more people saw them this time. Crowds piled in, soundchecks started and went wayyy to long.

A Silent Fiction were the first support band. I actually really liked them. They were a really fun band to watch; they had turntables and the singer was pretty rad, guitars were awesome. The first song they played there was already a circle pit so I believe they did a stellar job at supporting.

The Mission in Motion were the first second band. I hadn't heard much of them, except I knew they supported the Story of the year/audition gig earlier this year. I actually didn't mind them. There set seemed to go on forever, and in the end each song kinda sounded like the last one. There was about another 20 minutes of setting up and soundchecking before....

Escape The Fate came on, opening with Webs We Weave.
It was intense. It went off. If you got a gun, fired it at my head, yanked out my brains and pulled them apart, it would not even come close to how much it blew my mind.

I think this is what they played:
Webs We Weave
There's No Sympathy For The Dead
Friends And Alibis
Reverse This Curse
Dragging Dead Bodies In Blue Bags Up Really Long Hills
My Apocolypse
The Guillotine
Not Good Enough For Truth In Cliché
As You're Falling Down
Situations

Craig let everyone know early on that he had broken his foot, and wouldn't be able to jump around much, but assured as Max would make up for it by jumping off the balcony (more this song later).
In between songs there was entertainment too, haha.

In the beginning, Max was having some technical problems as one of his leads get get coming undone. Craig pulled him up on this, they ended up telling each other how much they loved each other. Then Max walked over and they ended up kissing  on the lips. The girls [and some guys] obviously thought nothing of this. There was surely no fangirling, squeeling, and screaming. Of course not >.>

I chose to leave barrier around halfway through ETF's seat because I wanted to be somewhere rougher, so I went into center front part of the crowd.  It was awesome. I also found Kate around there too with Tom.

Something so profound, something you won't expect

Halfway through a song, Max left the stage, ran up stairs onto the balcony and motioned us all to come close, ready to catch him. Now that barrier is a few metres high, and wow. It's a big drop. He climbed onto the ledge, and fucking jumped off the balcony, right into the crowd.

I live too fast, to die is to live in her head

There were lots of circle pits which was fun, however one of the funnest experiences of the night was without a doubt the Death Wall during The Guillotine.
Craig and Max called for the crowd to split in half (Craig tastefully stated he wanted the space as wide as his "ex-girlfriend's pussy". Delightful). A few boys refused to join the walls, which resulted in the biggest pwning ever. Seriously, they got torn apart, it was awesome Craig and Max totally ripped into them; it was fucking awesome. Everyone yelled 'lock and load' and the walls collided together. It was crazy and intense but so much fun.
Also during the Guillotine, Craig decided he wanted to jump off the balcony too. So up he went, with broken leg, and jumped off. Thankfully everyone was there to break his fall though. I still can't believe he did that with his injuries.

They left, but everyone knew they would come back on to do an Encore. And they did, without a doubt the most popular song of the night; Situations. Max introduced it by saying 'this song is about sex'. It was insane. I couldn't even hear Craig singing the crowd was so loud. Haha don't ask me why, but the live performance reminded me of the video so much. Obviously it wasn't in a highschool….and there were no girls in bikinis…but they were there in spirit. But seriously, facial expression and guitar move wise. It was fucking incredible.

We went outside as we were going to meet them, but ended up being very content with night, so we were like 'fuck it' and figured we'd go home. plus our ride needed to go soon anyway.

Initially I was extremely apprehensive about seeing ETF; I was devasted when Ronnie left, and it was another blow when Omar left.  Craig was fucking incredible, his performance both vocally and as a showman was exceptional. That goes for the rest of the band too; they put on a fantastic show. Flawless. Escape we Fate are without a doubt, one of the best live bands I've ever had the honour of being able to watch, and participate in. That was another excellent aspect of the concert; you were in it- you played a part in the show. It was an experience I will never forget. I can't wait till they come back.
